Message from Chair Liz Worthy

It was wonderful to see so many of you at the AGM and the meal afterwards.  It was so kind of many of you to come up and tell me how much you had enjoyed the day and thought what a good and positive day it was. It was so very good to get the chance to talk to members and get their views.  On the Council we are grateful for your feedback and think that you can see that we are working hard and achieving things for the betterment of the Society and the Cleveland Bay horse.

I would like to welcome the new members of Council. Marcia Brody in Maryland USA, who does so much to promote the CB's over there running the Mid Atlantic show series and organising Hunting Days.  Lorraine Chapman from Wales is a former Council member, a great enthusiast for the breed and is administrator of the CBHS Facebook page.  Both of these people bring the skills we needed for promotion of our breed and have been elected to the Promotions & Publications Committee.  Maggie Brown was re-elected for a further term and thankfully has agreed to continue as Show Committee Chair - a job she excels in as well as running the Performance Scheme.  Catherine Lea was elected to Council following her term as co-opted member last year and will continue on the Breed Committee.  Catherine is also the person I turn to for her language and communication skills!

That left us with two vacancies on Council and so two people have been co-opted for one year.  Steve Pullan (elected President Elect at the AGM) has agreed to join us on the Show Committee.  Steve's untiring promotion of our breed at shows is well known, with Knaresborough Moon Dust representing us at the Horse of the Year Show in the Cuddy.  His part breds are winning national awards and doing a great job of promoting the breed for us, both in Yorkshire and throughout the country.

The other co-option is of Sue Cutts of the Folds Stud which is based in the New Forest.  Sue had completed her term on Council, but under the CBHS Articles could be co-opted back on for a further year.  Sue is very involed with promoting the CB in the South whenever there is an opportunity and is very closely connected with the Southern CB Breeders Club.  She brings a wealth of knowledge of the CB going back to working at the famous Farnley Stud in Virginia USA in her early days and is very well respected over there - so an obvious choice to have back on the Supporters Group.

Council intend to bring in expertise as required from the membership to help with specific tasks and offers of help have been received both before and after the AGM.  I am delighted that members are offering their skills to us.

I look forward to another challenging and interesting year ahead!!

Take care and enjoy your Cleveland Bays.

Liz
