King George V Championship Show Results
High Park Scoffield was the impressive third-time winner of the recent King George V Cleveland Bay Stallion Championship 2011, having previously won this prestigious championship in 2003 and 2004.
Owned and shown by Dewsbury-based Jo Firth, the short-coupled, deep bodied stallion is by Storth House Temptation out of High Park Susan.
Said delighted owner, Jo, who also took the Best-Turned Out prize with the stallion: “I am absolutely ecstatic! I have owned him since he was a yearling and he was worth every penny. His temperament is tremendous which means a lot and he is producing fabulous offspring which are making great riding horses.”
The Reserve Champion was Whitehouse Trooper owned by Mrs I Nichol and bred by Mr and Mrs J D Douthwaite. Third place went to Oaten Tops’l bred by Mrs Mary Watson, owned by Norma Wilson and handled superbly by 14 year old Jonathan Jackson. Fourth place went to Lindon Principal bred and owned by the University of Lincoln and handled by Emily Williams.
This annual competition to find the champion stallion was held at the University of Lincoln, where the premium stallions were judged on conformation, breed type and movement by Mrs Ann Burrington, of Somerset. The venue at the Equine Unit of Lincoln University campus at Riseholme has well-established connections with the Cleveland Bay Horse Society (CBHS) through the university’s own Cleveland Bay breeding programme, which uses its own home-bred stallion, Lindon Principal.
The day began with the Pure-bred In-hand classes for yearlings, and youngstock. The yearling class was won by Lindon Scientist owned by the University of Lincoln. Caroline Scurrah’s Knaresborough Outlaw took the Youngstock class. The Open Cleveland Bay Stallion class was won by Wyevale Brayden who was shown by Sarah Wylie.
Spectators were treated to a parade of local stallions standing in the area, including breeds such as the Shire and Exmoor and the Part-bred and Ridden classes followed on.
Steve Pullan’s Jaguar Moon triumphed in the Part-bred Youngstock class and the Ridden Pure-bred class was won by Hampton Court Yeoman owned by Zara Williams. The University of Lincoln had further success taking the Ridden Part-bred class with Lindon Joint Honours.
