Part Bred Cleveland Bay qualifies for HOYS

Dedicated horse owner and rider, Liz Lloyd, has qualified her part-bred Cleveland Bay gelding, Jemoon Flying Officer, for the prestigious Horse of the Year Show (HOYS).

North Lincolnshire-based Liz gained her ticket to HOYS by winning the ‘Search For A Star - Hack And Riding Horse’ class at a recent show at Vale View in Leicestershire.

The ‘Search for a Star’ competition has been designed to give amateur riders and owners an opportunity to compete at HOYS and to identify top class horses and ponies which may otherwise not be given the opportunity to compete at this level. It is however, run by professionals and the standards imposed are identical to those applied to professionals.

The competition has gone from strength to strength and the standards have steadily improved so that it is now one of the most closely followed competitions at the Horse of the Year Show.

Eight-year-old Jemoon Flying Officer, or ‘Jaffa’ as he is known at home, was bred by Jane Moore and has been owned by Liz for four years. He is by the Thoroughbred stallion, Arms and the Man out of the very successful brood mare and part-bred Cleveland Bay, Poppy’s Moon.

Said Liz, whose mother sadly passed away last year: “I was absolutely thrilled but very emotional when I realised I had qualified for HOYS. It will be my first time riding there. We tried three years ago at Osbaldeston but weren’t ready. Now we are able to fly the flag for the Cleveland Bay breed and I know my mum would have been very proud of me.”
