Royal Display for Cleveland Bay
Following the announcement that Her Majesty the Queen was to visit the Great Yorkshire Show, the Cleveland Bay Horse Society (CBHS) is delighted that the Queen had the opportunity to see a display of this historic breed as part of her visit. As a guest of the Lieutenancy, Her Majesty took in a cross section of what was on show at the event. Her Majesty the Queen is the Patron of the CBHS and was President for the Centenary Year and Cleveland Bay horses have been kept at the Royal Mews since King George V introduced them. Hampton Court Stud still breeds Cleveland Bays for state and ceremonial duties where they can be seen drawing some of the royal coaches. The display featured several pure-bred and part-bred champions including the Great Yorkshire Show Supreme Champion for 2008 – Knaresborough Moondust, owned and bred by Danny Welch, and King George V Reserve Champion stallion, Penrhyn Dictator, owned by Joanne Firth. Also shown were some horses with links to Her Majesty. These included Lindon Principal, who is the great-grandson of Mulgrave Supreme, who was owned by Her Majesty. Lindon Principal was introduced as a ridden stallion and demonstrated the educational link with Lincoln University which has its own Cleveland Bay breeding programme. Two other part-bred Clevelands, also descendants of Mulgrave Supreme were shown. Jemoon Money Mover - a great example of the versatility of the breed is hunted regularly during the winter and is shown with great success in Ridden and Working Hunter classes during the summer, and Highmoor Livewire, who was shown under side saddle. Other participants were the outstanding Kirkmoor Primrose Flower, a four-year-old pure-bred filly, and Kirkmoor Mountain View, a part-bred gelding and Champion at this year’s show and both owned and bred by Heather Ketley; along with Great Yorkshire Show 2008 Reserve Champion, part-bred filly, Barbarian Cusco, who is owned by Jane Preston. The horses were all paraded before Her Majesty and then the owner of each one was individually introduced to Her Majesty by Mr James Stephenson of the CBHS.
